On April 1st, 2025, CETMAR hosted a World Cafe event as part of the GREEN project in Vigo, Spain, themed "Recommendations to Promote Green Training."

The event attracted key stakeholders from the Galician education ecosystem, focusing on VET and reskilling centres. The aim was to create a collaborative environment to discuss integrating green skills in educational settings, especially in VET.

It began with an introduction to the GREEN project, its results, and the established GREEN VET network, highlighting the importance of collaboration between training centres and industry to develop materials and activities. Although CETMAR and CT activities focus on the maritime sector, the event was not limited to it. Discussions on promoting green training considered various sectors, training types, target audiences, and training durations.

Participants addressed three main questions in three rounds:

• Which training resources would attendants recommend as the best way to integrate green skills in training activities.
• What would them expect from a network of sustainability training centers and  what would them be willing to contribute.
• What recommendations would they give to an initiative of this type.

Participants rotated between panels to ensure diverse perspectives and responses. The event format encouraged active discussion and idea sharing. It became clear that while some education centres have integrated green thinking into their curricula or even their centre culture, others face challenges due to size or training duration. Proposed solutions included organizing visits to those green centres so trainees in smaller or shorter programs can see the impact of green skills. Another recommendation was for centres to work as networks rather than individually, which comes to support the GREEN VET Network project proposals.

General recommendations for a sustainability network included increasing SDG awareness, recognizing involved individuals, and monitoring trends that could undermine awareness efforts. Training the trainers, lifelong learning, and ensuring diversity and inclusion by making content accessible were also deemed essential.

In summary, the importance of collaboration and networking among training centres to effectively integrate green skills into education was highlighted. By sharing resources and experiences, centres can overcome challenges and contribute to a more sustainable future. This event, as well, successfully fostered collaboration within attendants and generated valuable recommendations for promoting green training across various sectors. These efforts are crucial for building a sustainable future and ensuring that green skills are integrated into education and training programs.
